Social networkers for cash
New research by The Future Laboratory has established that, surprise surprise, social networking isn’t in fact just a time wasting diversion for staff and employees. The report, commissioned by MySpace, goes on to establish that social networking presents a way of running a moneymaking business. It suggests that nearly 3 million people in the UK have made money from their MySpace page. The report brands these teens and twentysomethings as ‘culturepreneurs’ – a new generation of business minded culture obsessives who generate income from such things as running club nights, films, street art, indie clothing lines and stand-up. The report wraps up by saying that women are more likely to network, averaging 22.5 hours online a week, against 20 hours for men.
Over the coming month’s we ourselves are going to be presenting you with a look at how an individuals passion for social networking can be turned into workplace productivity and passion. Better still, we’ll look at how individuals can be better motivated in the workplace AND use their spare time to earn reward for their ideas and intellect.
